Goldgenie launches at Harrods

publication date: Dec 3, 2007

The man with the golden touch, Laban Roomes, has worked his magic once again. Following his successful pitch on Dragons’ Den, Roomes has been working with backer James Caan and has just succeeded in securing a deal with premier department store, Harrods.

Roomes signed the deal with Harrods’ boss Mohamed Al Fayed and BBC Dragon James Caan on 27th November. Roomes’ products are being stocked on the 2nd floor of Harrods in the home & furniture department and Roomes marked the occasion by presenting Al Fayed with a gold plated cigar.

Roomes’ business, Goldgenie, was one of the first investments to be made in the current series of Dragons’ Den and offers a unique gold plating service that can be applied to numerous objects. Roomes started his business in 1995, gold plating car emblems for Lexus and then moved on to gold plating objects such as iPods, mobile phones and roses!

Commenting on the deal Roomes said “6 months ago I was working out of a shed in Hackney and today I can see my products in the premier department store in the country. At the moment I feel like it is all a bit unreal, not only have I benefited from the investment I won in Dragons’ Den but already I am seeing the influence that working with someone like James Caan can bring to a business.”

James Caan added “I am delighted to see my first investment in the den already showing signs of a significant success. This deal with Harrods is the starting point for Laban and I am delighted to be able to help him build and grow his business.”
