Since the Den, James has brought his business expertise and support to personally promote and develop the Motormouse business alongside Patti and David. Motormouse has made some great achievements in a short space of time. This year will see the launch of the BMW Mini and Mini Classic. The metallic red Motormouse now out-sells all of the other mice two to one. The company has been showcasing its products at the Motor shows throughout the country.  Particular highlights were the Autosport Top Gear show at the NEC where they sold one mouse every five minutes as well as the gadget’s appearance on the BBC show ‘Something for the Weekend’. The Motormouse has expanded into new markets. The product is now sold in store in Harrods and in-flight retail has particularly taken off, with the product now being the best selling product on board BA flights, and it sold out of Emirates in-flight shopping in 2 weeks. Due to their success James has now embarked on a ‘co-invest acquisition strategy’ with the partners through his private equity firm Hamilton Bradshaw. Patti and David are now looking for exciting new product based businesses to include in their portfolio. Ultimately the company hopes to grow exponentially by 2012 securing around 6-8 products within its portfolio.

“It was great to meet the Dragons and get the chance to show the product to a TV audience. The response after the BBC show was astonishing and at one stage the website took 400 hits per second. It’s been a great experience working with Hamilton Bradshaw and we look forward to developing David Bailey Developments further.” Patti and David Bailey

The brains behind Motormouse, David and Patti Bailey from Warwickshire, are both successful consultants specialising in the development of sales people and sales effectiveness. Their idea was a take on an “executive toy” for the modern day executive – a high-tech wireless computer mouse, uniquely designed with luxury sports cars in mind.

The Den

Although all the dragons loved Motormouse, the pitch created a nail-biting close to the series that saw James Caan secure the deal. Patti and David had prepared well – their pitch was cool and focused and knew exactly how to negociate the deal that was on the table. James recognised their passion for the product as well as their obvious business acumen. He saw potential for other opportunities to work with the couple alongside their existing business in the future.
